So, for a very long period of time, there has been a common saying that was used to raise men. Men were often told to hold their emotions as crying isn’t a manly nature. Now, I Cry by Usher is a new track that just released. As the song clearly states how he wants to change this narrative. Usher shares how he has been affected by all the recent happenings. Earlier today, Usher uploaded a cover art on Instagram, that was embellished by his son Naviyd.
Moreover, the art came along with a message about the need he felt to produce the song. Usher writes that this song was inspired by wanting to teach his sons. It is ok for a man to feel emotions. And they can be deep about it and can cry. As he said that, ‘like many men, I was raised to believe that we have to be ‘tough’ and not show our vulnerability, which I don’t want to teach them,”
However, the 41-year-old singer also mentioned that while he was under quarantine and watched the news regarding the death of George Floyd. So this made him very connected to the wider universal feeling of hopelessness. Furthermore, Usher also mentioned that “I became very depressed thinking about all the sons who have lost their fathers to police brutality, social injustice, and violence; the daughters and mothers too. So I returned to this song and realized it was intended for this time, so I finished it and here it is.”
