Billboard Changed Rules To Ticket, Merch, Digital Download Bundles || LATEST HIP HOP NEWS AND RUMORS

Billboard Changed Rules

So recently it has been announced that Billboard changed rules. In order to reflect on the consumer behaviors in a better way.  The changes are implied no merchandise, ticket and instant download bundles.

This affects the Billboard 200, Hot 100, and their other albums and single charts.

For many years artists has been offering merches with their physical or digital download copy. Such as T-shirts or hoodies. This system has been going around for a very long time.

However, some artists like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and 6ix9ine, Travis Scott and others, have used this tactic to boost up their sales. Which in fact, gives them an unfair advantage.

So therefore, Billboard came through with some few changes that have a solid fair sales.

The First rule goes that, all the albums and single bundles with merch or concert tickets must be promoted as an add-on. Not as a part of the same package where the price of the album is not publicly disclosed. In that case, the sale will not count towards the album’s sales total.

And secondly that Billboard changed rules was that, there will be no longer allow sales. Of physical albums or singles that are bundled with digital downloads to be reported as digital sales. Often times artist will sell a copy of the album. Like a cassette, and offer an instant digital download of the album. Which counts towards the first week sales.

However the idea is to eliminate the practice of shipping spontaneous items that have not been shipped. Only when the physical item that the comsumer is buying is later shipped. That will be counted in Billboard’s official tallies.
